Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy marks five years of Patakha Pictures
Her fellowship for first-time women filmmakers has now funded more than 75 directors.
Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has closed the latest season of Patakha Pictures, her fellowship that helps young women make their first films. The programme has now run for five years, funding more than 75 filmmakers whose work has played at over 100 festivals.
The newest group made four films, including one about a midwife in the remote Shimshal Valley and another about a woman competing in tent pegging. "We felt that there was a void," Obaid-Chinoy said. She hopes to open a Patakha House in Karachi within five years.
