Punjabi cinema earns a place in Australia’s festival conversation
The National Indian Film Festival of Australia gave Punjabi films their own package in 2026.

Australia’s National Indian Film Festival included a special Punjabi cinema package in its 2026 programme. Its broader screenings extended across metropolitan and regional locations, from Sydney and Melbourne to Dubbo, Broken Hill and Alice Springs.
That matters beyond one star-led release: festival programming gives Australian audiences another route into Punjabi filmmaking, including work that may not receive a regular commercial cinema run.
