Neeru Bajwa puts people before the box office
Neeru Bajwa has paused screenings of Thaapi after the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa, Punjab.
Neeru Bajwa paused Thaapi’s screenings following the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa, Punjab. Announcing the decision on 18 October in a Punjabi-language Facebook post, she said cinema exists for people and cannot be bigger than them.
The sports drama had opened worldwide just two days earlier, on 16 October, making this a significant interruption to its release. Bajwa said the film was made to bring life back to Punjab’s fields. No new release date has been reported.
