Valve isn't promising an AI ban

Speaking in South Korea, Valve addressed AI copycat games on Steam without committing to a ban on AI tools.

Speaking at a developer conference in Busan, South Korea, Valve addressed concerns about developers using AI to quickly copy successful and upcoming games, according to Game Developer. Valve's Tom Giardino said the company does not want to be a gatekeeper telling developers which tools to use.

Rather than announcing a crackdown, Valve placed much of the onus on developers, suggesting they build active communities and make games that are harder to clone. The distinction matters: complaints about copycat releases on Steam are not the same as a new platform policy, and the quality debate remains very much alive.
