Scramble Knights changed genre to save its adventure
Funktronic Labs rebuilt battle royale Scramble Knights as a co-operative MMO-lite after playtesters favoured exploring.
Funktronic Labs told Xbox Wire that Scramble Knights Online began life as Scramble Knights Royale, a top-down battle royale. Playtesters enjoyed the world and its exploration but disliked the battle royale elements, so the studio rebuilt it as a co-operative action RPG it calls MMO-lite.
The game is now available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC as a game preview, included with Game Pass. That is a remarkable development pivot, guided by what players actually enjoyed rather than the original pitch.
